Office of the Chief Information Officer

The Office of Chief Information Officer provides strategic direction and operational support for the Board's information systems, and develops and distributes programs and products for use by the Board and the public. The Office is comprised of four divisions and one program area.

The Computer Services Division

The Computer Services Division provides help desk support for desktop/laptop setup, repair and replacement, scanner support, network connectivity and software installations/upgrades. The division also provides network engineering support for account administration, email, internet access, web services, backup/recovery and security.

The Systems Support Division

The Systems Support Division develops, distributes, and maintains agency-specific applications, and provides database administration services in support of program offices. Applications include accident data collection, storage, analysis, and dissemination for all modes, and management of systems for accident records (Docket Management System), safety recommendations, correspondence, FOIA requests, and general administration.

The Records Management Division

The Records Management Division maintains the archives of accident investigation files, Safety Board reports, and other agency records. It is responsible for fulfilling public requests for information, including FOIA requests; providing training for Docket Management System and guidance on redaction policies and techniques; and monitoring privacy and confidentiality of data and information. This division also provides general records management oversight.

The Enterprise Architecture Division

The Enterprise Architecture Division supports the agency mission and strategic goals by providing a blueprint that defines –in logical or business terms and in technology terms – how the NTSB operates today, intends to operate in the future, and intends to invest in technology to transition to this future state.

The Information Technology (IT) Security Program

The Information Technology (IT) Security program is an integral part of the Office of the Chief Information Officer and is in place to ensure that the Safety Board is in compliance with requirements set forth in the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) of 2002. What follows is an identification of the goal of the Safety Board’s IT Security Program, the activities and processes associated with meeting that goal and additional information relating to IT Security across the Government and at the NTSB.
