2010 Census Operations News Briefing — On Sept. 22 at 9 a.m. EDT, Census Bureau Director Robert Groves will provide a status update on the 2010 Census, including a discussion of the data processing phase, at the National Press Club in Washington.

American Community Survey

Media Webinar: 2009 American Community Survey 1-Year Estimates — On Sept. 23 at 2:45 p.m. EDT, the Census Bureau will hold a Web conference to discuss the Sept. 28 release of the 1-year American Community Survey data. The webinar will include guidance on how to access and use the upcoming data, a description of what topics will be new in the 2009 data, a tour of new Web resources, a discussion of future data release plans, and a question and answer session. The Web conference will consist of a simultaneous audio conference and online presentation. Dial-in and access information will be announced closer to the date.

Demographic

Income, Poverty and Health Insurance Coverage: 2009 — On Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. EDT, the Census Bureau will hold a Web conference to announce findings from the official report on income, poverty and health insurance coverage for the nation, based on the Annual Social and Economic Supplement to the 2010 Current Population Survey. Foreign-Born Population of the United States: March 2009 — How do foreign-born U.S. residents compare with their children in areas such as educational attainment, income and poverty status? This table series provides a range of social and economic characteristics for the foreign-born population and their children. It is the only source of data that provides profiles of the foreign-born population by generation. (Scheduled for release in September.)

Working Paper on the Change in Cohabiting Couples from 2009 to 2010 — This paper from the Census Bureau's Housing and Household Economic Statistics Division examines the factors that may have contributed to the change as well as the characteristics of couples living together. It compares couples who began cohabiting within the last year with couples who have lived together for at least a year. The data from the paper come from the 2010 Annual Social and Economic Supplement to the Current Population Survey. (Scheduled for release in September.)

Economic Indicators — The Census Bureau releases statistics that provide monthly, quarterly and yearly updates on key measures of the nation's economic condition. Upcoming releases in September include new homes sales and the advance report on durable goods manufactures' shipment and housing starts/building permits. 2007 Economic Census Franchise Report — On Sept. 14 at 8:45 a.m. EDT, Census Bureau Deputy Director Thomas Mesenbourg will present the first detailed and comprehensive look at franchising in the United States at the International Franchise Association's Annual Public Affairs Conference in Washington. Media availability to follow. These statistics, from the 2007 Economic Census, show data at the national level for nearly 300 industries in 15 of the 18 economic sectors for which data is collected. Previous economic censuses only included a question about franchising in the food services industry.

Survey of Business Owners: Hispanic-Owned Businesses: 2007 — On Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. EDT, the Census Bureau will hold a Web conference to present data sets showing the number of firms, sales and receipts, number of paid employees and annual payroll. Data are presented by industry and size of business. For the first time since 2002, counties, metropolitan areas and cities can see statistical profiles of Hispanic-owned businesses in their areas. The Web conference will consist of a simultaneous audio conference and online presentation. Dial-in and access information will be announced closer to the date.

Hispanic-Owned Businesses: Texas: 2007 — On Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. CDT, in Dallas, Texas, the Census Bureau will hold a news conference to present Texas data sets on Hispanic-owned businesses. For the first time since 2002, Texas counties, metropolitan areas and cities can see statistical profiles of Hispanic-owned businesses in their areas. More details will be provided closer to the date.

Thanksgiving Day: Nov. 25 — To celebrate our national day of thanksgiving, this release highlights a range of economic and demographic statistics pertaining to the menu of culinary delights consumed on Turkey Day. (Scheduled for release Sept. 27.)

Demographic

Revised 2009 Population Estimates for Incorporated Places and Minor Civil Divisions and Housing Unit Estimates — Sept. 9 — The Census Bureau has released two sets of revised 2009 estimates: 1) July 1, 2009 population estimates for incorporated places and minor civil divisions and 2) July 1, 2009 housing unit estimates for counties. The original estimates were released in June 2010. These revisions have no effect on any of the previously released Vintage 2009 population estimates at the national, state or county level.

Media Advisory — Census Bureau Provides Look at Coastal Areas Potentially Impacted by Hurricane Earl — The Census Bureau calculated that 26 million people in 68 counties — from North Carolina to Maine — were potentially in the path of Hurricane Earl.

2007 Economic Census of Island Areas: Puerto Rico Geographic Area Statistics — Sept. 10 — These data provide details about businesses engaged in sectors other than manufacturing and construction. Data are presented for Puerto Rico commercial regions and municipios. The report also includes product-line sales data for wholesale and retail trades by kind of business for Puerto Rico.

Consolidated Federal Funds Report: 2009 and Federal Aid to States for Fiscal Year 2009 — Aug. 31 — These two reports provide an overview of federal spending at the national, state and county levels. The data have been published annually since 1983 and describe spending for procurement contracts, salaries and wages, direct payments, loans and insurance, as well as federal grants to state and local governments. State and Local Government Employment and Payroll: 2009 — Aug. 31 — Latest data showing the number of state and local government employees (full-time equivalent, full time and part time), along with payroll amounts, for the United States and individual states.
