2010 Census

2010 Census in Schools Chicago Launch Event — U.S. Department of Commerce Under Secretary Rebecca Blank and Mayor Richard Daley will participate in a joint news conference at a Chicago high school in the fourth in a series of launch events for the national Census in Schools program. (Event scheduled for Dec. 10.)

2010 Census Operational Media Briefing — U.S. Census Bureau Director Robert Groves will update the media at the National Press Club in Washington on the status of 2010 Census operations, with a particular focus on the address list. This event will be call-in accessible for media participation. (Event scheduled for Dec. 14 at 9 a.m.)

2010 Census in Schools Florida Launch Event — Nova Blanche Forman Elementary School in Davie, Fla., is the site for the fifth in a series of launch events for the national Census in Schools program. (Event scheduled for Dec. 16.)

2010 Census Portrait of America Road Tour — The U.S. Census Bureau's national tour vehicle -- a 42-foot gooseneck trailer -- will roll into New York City's Rockefeller Center to begin the 2010 Census Portrait of America Road Tour, a cross-country interactive experience specifically designed to rally support and boost participation in the 2010 Census. The vehicle will be featured on NBC's "Today." Also, 12 regional census vehicles will begin travels from various famous landmarks across the nation. (Event scheduled for Jan. 4.)

American Community Survey

The Foreign-Born Labor Force in the United States: 2007 — This analysis from American Community Survey data looks at the characteristics of the civilian foreign-born vs. native labor force population on topics that include educational attainment, occupation and industry. (Scheduled for release Dec. 7.)

Demographic

The Foreign-Born Population of the United States: 2007 and 2008 — National-level tabulations from the Current Population Survey on this population segment include characteristics such as education, marital status, employment status, occupation and industry, earnings and poverty, and household type and tenure. Foreign-born population characteristics cross tabulations by generation status (i.e., first, second or third) are unique to this data set. (Scheduled for release Dec. 7.)

2009 International Data Base Update — This database is a series of estimates and projections that provide a consistent set of demographic indicators, such as population size and growth, mortality, fertility and net migration for 227 countries and other areas of the world with populations of 5,000 or more. (Scheduled for release Dec. 15.)

Statistical Abstract of the United States: 2010 — Before the automobile, the airplane and even the birth of Franklin D. Roosevelt, there was "Uncle Sam's Almanac." The 129th edition presents, as always, statistics on a dazzling array of topics -- from "A" (aerobics) to "Z" (zinc production). Included are more than 50 new tables and 1,400 overall, describing life in our nation and the world. (Scheduled for release Dec. 15.)

Supplemental U. S. Population Projections: 2000-2050 — The Census Bureau will release a set of four national population projections, supplementing the series released in August 2008, tabulated by age, race, sex and Hispanic origin. These four scenarios assume either high, low, constant or zero international migration between 2000 and 2050. Despite this new release, the August 2008 projections remain the preferred series for users. (Tentatively scheduled for release Dec. 16.)

State Population Estimates: July 1, 2009 — The Census Bureau is releasing the final set of state population estimates before the official 2010 Census reapportionment counts to be released in December 2010. Internet tables will show July 1, 2009, population estimates and components of change for the nation, states and Puerto Rico. (Scheduled for release Dec. 21.)

New Year's Day Population — The Census Bureau will ring in the year with its annual projection of the nation's population for Jan. 1, 2010. The release will include birth, death and net international migration rates. (Scheduled for release Dec. 29.)

A Child's Day: 2006 (Selected Indicators of Child Well-Being) — This is the fourth report in a series since 2001 that examines children's well-being and their daily activities, both at home and at school. The data comes from the Survey of Income and Program Participation. This report focuses on how well children are progressing into adulthood, using trends that include parental interaction with children, participation in extracurricular activities and school engagement. (Tentatively scheduled for release in December.)

Economic

2008 North American Transportation in Figures — This report provides a comprehensive overview of 2008 transportation statistics in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Each language edition -- English, Spanish and French -- contains more than 30 data tables. Statistics include modes of transportation, fuel consumption, number of passengers, fatalities and more. (Scheduled for release Dec. 7 <http://nats.sct.gob.mx/nats/>.)

2007 Economic Census: Information Geographic Area Series — This is a series of national-, state-, county-, place-, and metro area-level data files on the information sector (NAICS 51). These include data for industries such as newspapers, movie theaters, radio and TV broadcasting, telecommunication, libraries and others. The files proved data on the number of establishments, receipts, payroll, number of employees, and other data items by industry. These data will be released through December 2009. (Scheduled for release on Dec. 8.)

Commodity Flow Survey: 2007 — This survey produces data on the movement of goods in the United States by value, weight, average miles per shipment, mode of transportation and type of commodity shipped for manufacturing, mining, wholesale and select retail establishments. A separate report contains data on hazardous material shipments by hazard class, mode of transportation, states of origin and other characteristics. This survey is part of the 2007 Economic Census. Previous data were collected in 2002. (Scheduled for release Dec. 22.)

2008 Annual State Government Finances — These data represent detailed summaries of state revenue (such as taxes, federal aid and lottery receipts), expenditures (such as public welfare, highways, and parks and recreation), indebtedness and assets. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early/mid-December.)

2008 Service Annual Survey: Truck, Transportation, Messenger Services and Warehousing — This industry series tracks expenses and revenues for firms that haul, warehouse and deliver America's freight. Establishments include those that use transportation equipment or transportation-related facilities as a productive asset. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-December.)

2008 Service Annual Survey: Information Sector Services — These data show revenues and expenses for establishments typically engaged producing and distributing information and cultural products, such as newspaper publishing, the Internet, motion pictures, broadcasting, telecommunications and others. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-December.)

2008 Service Annual Survey: Securities, Commodities and Other Financial Investments — Revenues and expenditures for the financial industry are tracked yearly. These typically include industries involved in underwriting securities issues, making markets for securities and commodities, acting as agents (such as brokers) between buyers and sellers, managing portfolios of assets, providing investment advice, among others. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-December.)

2008 Service Annual Survey: Health Care and Social Assistance — This sector comprises industries providing medical care exclusively, as well as establishments providing health care and social assistance combined, and social assistance alone. (Tentatively scheduled for release in December.)

Facts for Features

Valentine's Day — Lovers of statistics pertaining to this day for lovers will swoon over this edition of Facts for Features, which includes a collection of data on chocolates, flowers, jewelry and marriage. (Scheduled for release Dec. 14.)

2007 Economic Census: Construction Geographic Area Series — Nov. 20 — This is a series of state-level data files on the construction sector (NAICS 23). These include data for residential and nonresidential building contractors, civil engineering and specialty trade contractors, builders, remodelers, industrial and commercial construction, and others. The files provide data on the number of establishments, value of business done, payroll, the number of employees, and other data items by industry. These data will be released through January 2010.

Black (African-American) History Month: February 2010 — To commemorate and celebrate the contributions to our nation made by people of African descent, the Census Bureau presents a collection of demographic and economic statistics about the black community.
