Demographic

Population Change in Central and Outlying Counties of Metropolitan Statistical Areas: 2000 to 2007 — Analysis of population change and the demographic components of change in both core and outlying portions of metropolitan areas. This change is examined by region and division and metropolitan area population size category, as well as for 12 of the most populous metropolitan areas. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early April.)

Educational Attainment in the United States: 2008 — Internet tables from the Current Population Survey's Annual Social and Economic Supplement detail education levels by age, sex, race, Hispanic origin, marital status, nativity, occupation and other demographic characteristics at the national level. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early April.)

Who Could Afford to Buy a Home in 2004? — The latest in a periodic series of reports measuring changes in housing affordability for families and individuals (both owners and renters). This report examines the affordability of homes at different price levels, chances of affordability by demographic characteristic, reasons why families and unrelated individuals couldn't afford a home, and the impact of possible policy changes (such as modified down payments and interest rates) on affordability for renters. The data were collected from the Survey of Income and Program Participation. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-April.)

Geographic Mobility: 2008 — These tables provide an overview of migration patterns within the U.S., the differences in the extent and types of moves, the characteristics of movers, regional migration patterns and the reasons people move. Data come from the Current Population Survey. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late April.)

2008 State Government Tax Collections — Data on state tax collections for fiscal year 2008 by category, such as severance taxes, occupation and business licenses, individual income taxes, general sales taxes and property taxes. (Tentatively scheduled for release March 30.)

Facts for Features

Father's Day — The Census Bureau honors "dear old dad" with a collection of statistical information from its demographic and economic subject areas pertaining to Father's Day, from stay-at-home dads to time spent with their children. (Scheduled for release April 21.)

Profile America and Al Día (Spanish) for March-April — Profile America is a daily, 60-second audio feature that uses interesting vignettes from key events, observances or commemorations for that day to highlight information collected by the Census Bureau. Upcoming segments include the development of the real thing in "A Favorite Drink Goes on Sale" (March 30) and getting a grip on attitude in "Humor and Stress" (April 16). Address Canvassing Begins — March 25 — The Census Bureau will launch a massive operation on March 30 to verify and update more than 145 million addresses as it prepares to conduct the 2010 Census.

Media Advisory: 2010 Census National Partnership Briefing — March 26 — Nearly 250 national partners from around the country will join the U.S. Census Bureau on March 30 for an exclusive briefing in Washington to launch outreach efforts as part of the "one-year-out" activities.

County, Puerto Rico Municipio, Metropolitan and Micropolitan Area Population Estimates: July 1, 2008 — March 19 — Raleigh-Cary, N.C., and Austin-Round Rock, Texas, were the nation's fastest-growing metro areas between 2007 and 2008. St. Bernard Parish, near New Orleans, was the fastest-growing county for the second year in a row. Internet tables are available showing population estimates, rankings and components of change for the nation's counties, county equivalents, metro and micro areas since Census 2000 and up to July 1, 2008.

2008 4th Quarter Summary of State and Local Government Tax Revenue — March 26 — Quarterly tax revenue data on property, sales, license, income and other taxes. Data are shown for individual state governments as well as national-level estimates of total state and local taxes, including 12-month calculations. This quarterly survey has been conducted continuously since 1962.

2007 Economic Census Advance Report — March 17 — This is the first look at the business activity of the more than 4 million businesses that took part in the 2007 Economic Census and highlights national-level data for 101 industry groups, including number of establishments, revenue, payroll and number of employees. The economic census dates back to 1810 and has been conducted at five-year intervals since the 1950s.

2007 Economic Census of Island Areas: Northern Mariana Islands — March 17 — The first data to be released for the U.S. Island Areas, these data come from the 2007 Economic Census and include number of establishments, sales, payroll, number of employees and other data items. Data for Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico will follow between May 2009 and September 2010.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway 100th Anniversary — March 24 — The world's largest sports venue, with the ability to accommodate about 400,000 spectators, turns 100 this year. The 93rd Indy 500 on May 24, 2009, is being billed as the first race in the track's "Centennial Era" of 2009-2011. To commemorate this automotive milestone, the Census Bureau has compiled a collection of facts and figures relating to our nation, Indiana and Indianapolis during the past 100 years.
