The Effects of Taxes and Transfers on Income and Poverty in the United States: 2006 — These estimates of income and poverty for various demographic groups use a series of alternative income definitions that take into account government taxes and transfers. These estimates show how income distributions change when the definition of income is varied to reflect the inclusion or exclusion of different components. The estimates are for calendar year 2006 as collected in the 2007 Annual Social and Economic Supplement (ASEC) to the Current Population Survey and are similar to those released from the 2006 ASEC (calendar year 2005 estimates) in the Effect of Taxes and Transfers on Income and Poverty in the United States: 2005. (Tentatively scheduled for release Jan. 8.)

Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE): 2005 — These tables provide estimates of income and poverty for states and counties, as well as estimates of poverty and population for school districts, median household income and poverty rates of various age groups. SAIPE provides annual updates for the administration of federal programs and the allocation of federal funds to local jurisdictions. (Tentatively scheduled for release Jan. 9.)

Educational Attainment in the United States: 2007 — Internet tables detailing education levels by age, sex, race, Hispanic origin, marital status, nativity, occupation and other demographic characteristics at the national level. (Tentatively scheduled for release Jan. 10.)

What It’s Worth: Field of Training and Economic Status: 2004 — We’ve seen the data showing that more education usually equals a higher salary. But what fields of study have the greater payoff? This series of tables from the Survey of Income and Program Participation examines the relationship between field of training and monthly earnings. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late January.)

Living Arrangements of Children: 2004 — Examines the diversity of children’s living arrangements, from living with two biological parents to living in blended families. These national-level data come from the Survey of Income and Program Participation. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-January.)

Census Atlas of the United States — This hardbound 300-page book contains more than 700 maps and figures organized to increase understanding of population and housing characteristics from 1790 to 2000. It is the first comprehensive statistical atlas of population and housing produced by the Census Bureau since the 1920s. To order, go to <http://bookstore.gpo.gov/>.

Facts for Features

Super Bowl XLII (Special Edition) — Facts and figures from the Census Bureau’s demographic subject areas relating to the 42nd edition of our nation's most celebrated sporting event. The game has evolved into the nation's most-watched U.S. television broadcast of the year and the day on which it occurs, Super Bowl Sunday, into a de facto national observance. Includes data for Glendale, Ariz., site of the big game, as well as cities represented by the two participating NFL teams. (Tentatively scheduled for release Jan. 22.)

Editor’s note: Facts for Features are customarily released about two months before an observance in order to accommodate magazine production timelines.

2006 Service Annual Survey: Arts, Entertainment, and Recreations Services — Dec. 20 —The report provide estimates such as revenue and expenses for taxable and tax-exempt performing arts, spectator sports, museums, historical sites, amusement, gambling, and similar institutions. 2006 Service Annual Survey: Other Services (Except Public Administration, Religious, Labor, and Political Organizations, and Private Households) — Dec. 20 —The report provide estimates such as revenue and expenses for taxable repair and maintenance firms, and taxable personal and laundry services.
