Y2K Arrives in Pacific Without Incident
WASHINGTON (Dec. 31) - So far, so good. That's the message U.S. Pacific Command sent the National Military Command Center here as Y2K arrived in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Japan and Korea.

Pentagon's Y2K Director Gives Green Light for Year 2000
WASHINGTON - Bill Curtis will be the first one to tell you that some of his friends thought he lost his senses in March 1998 when he took over as DoD's principal director for Y2K. With more than 7,000 systems that had to be examined, repaired and tested, approximately 350 separate computer domains all containing software, hardware and communications devices subject to Y2K glitches, and 637 military installations that needed to be brought into compliance - the sheer enormity of the task was enough to make even the brightest computer technician or software engineer's head spin.

WASHINGTON - It's mostly just a large open, quiet room in a downtown Washington office building right now. Almost all the workstations remain vacant. The computer screens are dark, and the large television screens suspended from the ceiling glow to a nonexistent audience.

Govern Reserve Health Care by Risk, not Status, Leader Says
WASHINGTON - An Air Force Reserve technical sergeant was called to active duty in Kosovo. Before the call-up, he, his wife and their three children got their medical care from a civilian dentist through his employer's medical insurance plan. The plan didn't cover them, however, once he left for active duty.
