LEED has become the industry standard for demonstrating the “sustainability” of new construction and rehabilitation projects. Increasing numbers of NPS and other rehabilitation projects are aspiring to LEED certification. As a result, there is a growing need for preservationists to become LEED accredited professionals.
Towards meeting this demand, NCPTT will offer a LEED New Construction & Major Renovations Exam Preparation Workshop, May 20-22, 2009. This three day workshop will prepare participants to take the LEED-NC 2.2 exam.Faculty for the workshop is Donna Isaacs, a USGBC LEED AP, graduate of University of Florida and Miami-Dade College. She currently instructs LEED workshops around the state of Florida for the UF TREEO Center.
While it is too late to register to take the LEED-NC 2.2 exam, the material covered will be useful to anyone considering taking the exam for the upcoming version of LEED, LEED v.3. For anyone who has already registered to take the LEED exam prior to the end of June, this will be one of the only offerings in this area.
The workshop will be held at NCPTT headquarters in Natchitoches, LA. Housing is available at University Place on the campus of Northwestern State University for $18 per day. Alternatively, Natchitoches has a host of hotels and bed and breakfasts.

The course workshop will be taught by Donna Isaacs, a USGBC LEED AP, graduate of University of Florida and Miami-Dade College. She currently instructs LEED workshops with the University of Florida Center for Training, Research, and Education for Environmental Occupations (www.treeo.ufl.edu). A workbook will be provided.
I’m an architectural historian doing Section 106 (and other) project review for the SHPO. Since I am not trained as an architect, is this material likely to be over my head?

As more and more rehabilitation projects aim for LEED certification, the need increases for preservation professionals to understand the certification process. While this workshop is designed to prepare participants to take the LEED exam, it will also be useful for folks who simply want to become more familiar with the LEED process. One needn’t be an architect to benefit from this workshop.
Our commercial construction company would like to have a LEED certified person on staff for our projects – both commercial & residential. (Garrett & Associates GC, Tyler, TX) I am considering being the ‘point person’ for this certification. What background MUST one have prior to entry for the seminars/education preparing for the exam?
