Defense Centers of Excellence:
The Defense Centers of Excellence leads a collaborative effort toward optimizing psychological health and traumatic brain injury treatment for the Department of Defense. DCoE's mission is to maximize opportunities for warriors and families to thrive through a collaborative global network promoting resilience, recovery, and reintegration for psychological health and traumatic brain injuries.
Deployment Health and Family Readiness Library
This library provides servicemembers, families, leaders, health care providers, and veterans an easy way to find deployment health and family readiness information. Within this library you'll find access to fact sheets, guides and other products on a wide variety of topics published by the services and organizations that serve you. You'll also find additional Web links to other organizations and resources devoted to the health and well being of the servicemember and their family.
National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
The PTSD center, a special facility within Veterans Affairs, is charged with advancing the clinical care and social welfare of America's veterans. This is accomplished through research, education and training in the science, and diagnosis and treatment of PTSD and stress-related disorders.
Readjustment Counseling Service
Readjustment Counseling Service is offered by Veterans Affairs at 207 community-based Vet Centers located in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands to help combat veterans readjust to civilian life. Services include treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder or help with any other issue affecting functions within the family, work, school or other areas of everyday life; plus a wide range of other services to include medical referral, homeless veteran, employment, VA benefit referral, and the brokering of non-VA services.
Homeless Veterans Treatment Programs
Homeless Veterans Treatment Programs strive to offer a continuum of services that include:
- Aggressive outreach to those veterans living on streets and in shelters who otherwise would not seek assistance
- Clinical assessment and referral to needed medical treatment for physical and psychiatric disorders, including substance abuse
- Long-term sheltered transitional assistance, case management, and
- Employment assistance and linkage with available income supports rehabilitation
- Supported permanent housing
Blinded Veterans Association
The BVA is the only veterans service organization exclusively dedicated to serving America's blind and visually impaired veterans. It was specifically established to promote the welfare of blinded veterans, and to help veterans and their families meet the challenges of blindness.
Disabled American Veterans
DAV is an organization focused on building better lives for disabled veterans and their families by providing free assistance in obtaining benefits and services earned through their military service. Its largest endeavor is the National Service Program. In 88 offices, a corps of 260 National Service Officers and 26 Transition Service Officers directly represent veterans with claims for benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense. This free service is available to all veterans.
