Laboratory Quality Assurance Evaluation Program for Analysis of Cryptosporidium under the Safe Drinking Water Act

The purpose of this Laboratory Quality Assurance Program is to maintain a list of laboratories that can reliably measure the occurrence of Cryptosporidium in surface water using EPA Method 1622 and/or EPA Method 1623. Participating laboratories continue to demonstrate proficiency with experienced personnel who have successfully demonstrated their capability.

  This video demonstrates a newer laboratory procedure, dispersant addition, outlined in Method 1623.1 to improve Cryptosporidium detection, especially for difficult matrices, and achieve better quality control results than those using previous procedures.

As of May 2007, EPA estimates that sufficient laboratory capacity exists for the LT2.  EPA has generally postponed evaluation of additional laboratories, including commercial, county, municipal and utility laboratories, until further notice. EPA will consider evaluation of State and EPA Regional laboratories on a case-by-case basis, resources permitting, based on the role that States and EPA Regions play in the certification and approval programs for laboratories.

List of Laboratories Approved for the Analysis of Cryptosporidium Under the Safe Drinking Water Act

The following laboratories have passed the Laboratory Quality Assurance Evaluation Program for Analysis of Cryptosporidium under the Safe Drinking Water Act, and have been granted "Approved" status. The purpose of the Lab QA Program is to identify laboratories that can reliably measure the occurrence of Cryptosporidium in surface water using EPA Method 1622 and/or EPA Method 1623.
