Advanced Photon Source Organization

In May 2002, The Advanced Photon Source was reorganized into three divisions: the Accelerator Systems Division (ASD), the APS Engineering Support Division (AES), and the X-Ray Science Division (XSD). Parts of the former User Program Division (UPD) were incorporated into XSD, while other parts were incorporated into AES.

  • APS Engineering Support
The APS Engineering Support Division serves the mission and goals of the APS by providing integrated, facility-wide engineering and technical services to the Accelerator Systems and X-ray Sciences divisions and to the APS user community.
  • Accelerator Systems Division
The Accelerator Systems Division provides engineering and physics support for the Advanced Photon Source.
  • X-ray Science Division
The X-ray Science Division develops and builds state-of-the-art synchrotron radiation instrumentation and uses it in a safe and environmentally sound manner, to conduct world-class research at the forefront of science and technology.
  • APS Upgrade Project
The APS Upgrade project will increase the brightness of the APS high-energy (hard) x-ray beams. This will equip researchers for the groundbreaking discoveries and transformational innovations that create new products and industries and generate jobs. The completed project will increase the number of users and experiments that can be accommodated by the APS, and the brightness of the x-ray beams at the APS.
