NED Spatial Metadata Spatial metadata in the form of an ESRI shapefile is supplied for each resolution layer and may be obtained at this NED Metadata download page. Polygonal footprints of the contributing area of each source dataset provides spatial context, with various attached attributes describing the source data’s characteristics, such as its original resolution and production method. A NED user might, for example, use this metadata to identify portions of a study area that were produced with now-obsolete methods.
