Search Tips

If you are inactive for more than ten minutes you will have to enter NPS Focus again since there is a “timeout” feature.

When performing multiple, unrelated searches be aware you may have to set your search criteria back to the default value of blank.

Sometimes a search returns too many results to be useful. When this happens, click on “Revise Search" at the top of the screen that returns the results. An Advanced Search screen will open allowing you to fine-tune the search by category and the use of “and”, “or” and “not” operators. All information from your previous search will be "remembered" and will appear in the Advanced Search screen.

There are instances where the nomination text or photographs are missing. This may be because the nomination is considered restricted because of its sensitive location, or there are documentation issues, or we have not yet finished digitizing this nomination.

Using DjVu or Acrobat Reader for viewing is highly recommended. Within these viewers all files are full text searchable.

You can search all digitized text in Google by going to the advanced search at www.google.com/advanced_search and putting the value of pdfhost.focus.nps.gov in the search within a site or domain box.

Display Tips
If you are using Acrobat Reader to view these files you can save lots of waiting by going to Acrobat/Edit/Preferences, and unchecking “Allow speculative downloading”. That way you will download only what you want to view on screen.
