National Airport Pavement Test Facility 10th Anniversary Celebration

A 10th anniversary celebration of the National Airport Pavement Test Facility was held on July 23, 2009. The ceremony took place on sight with 150 people from government and industry in attendance. Mr. Patrick Lewis, Program Director of the FAA Airport and Aircraft Safety Research and Development Group, offered opening remarks. Honored guests and speakers included former Congressman and Ambassador William J. Hughes, Mr. William Carson of the office of Congressman Frank A. LoBiondo, Mayor James McCullough of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, and Ms. Kate Lang, FAA Associate Administrator for Airports. Honored guests also in attendance were Ms. Rachel Friesel from the office of Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey, Mr. Barry Scott Director of the FAA/ATO Next Gen and Operations Planning Research and Technology Development Office, and Ms. Victoria Cox, Senior Vice President of Next Gen and Operation Planning.

Following a video presentation and demonstration of the test vehicle, Ms. Lang presented award plaques to 12 of the attendees. The awards were for “Recognition and Appreciation of Outstanding Efforts and Support of the National Airport Pavement Test Facility.” Five other ceremony participants delivered brief addresses: Mr. Bruce Singer, former FAA Executive, Mr. Edward Gervais of the Boeing Company, Mr. Cyril Fabre of Airbus Industry, Mr. Jim Cody of DMJM (manufacturer of the test vehicle), and Mr. Charles Teubert of SRA International. Dr. Wilson Felder, Director of the William J. Hughes Technical Center, offered the concluding remarks. The event was covered by local news media.
