LEXINGTON, Ky. -- In the last two years, floods, tornadoes and ice storms have caused enough damage for five major federal disaster declarations and one emergency declaration in Kentucky. The deadline is tomorrow – Tuesday, Sept. 21 – for individuals in Carter, Lewis, Madison, Mason, Pike and Rowan counties affected by the July storms to register for federal and state disaster assistance. It's also the deadline to return completed disaster loan applications to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Eight weeks after the federal disaster declaration for Kentucky's severe storms, flooding and mudslides in July, more than $15 million in assistance has flowed to residents in six counties. The last two remaining Disaster Recovery Centers in Pike County are closing for good at 6 p.m. today (Friday, Sept. 17).
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- People come together in times of crisis. Staying together after time passes is a challenge. Neighbors helped neighbors and volunteers were the first on the scene when severe storms and flooding devastated parts of Kentucky beginning July 17. Almost immediately after the rain stopped, the Big Sandy Chapter of the American Red Cross opened shelters in Pike County, where church groups and countless volunteer agencies served food and pitched in on the cleanup.
