Bernard Willi, ACC Personnel Recovery Core Function Team chief, at Langley Air Force Base, Va., Oct. 31, 2011. Over a two day period of emergency rescue operations, Willi and an Afghan crew saved a total of 988 lives; including taking 64 people to safety in a single aircraft load. Air Combat Command Airman Staff Sgt. Samuel Cruz observes Afghan health care providers administer six vaccinations to each of the nearly 400 Afghan National Army basic trainees at the 209th Shaheen Army Hospital in Afghanistan Jan. 3, 2010. Sergeant Cruz, a preventive medicine mentor with the Combined Security Transition Command - Afghanistan Medical Embedded Training Team, ensures the providers follow basic safety procedures, such as properly disposing of syringes, cleaning the vaccination site before giving an injection and wearing gloves.
