Ozone Formation and Transport Studies
Overview
Big Meadows Monitoring Site
Shenandoah NP, VA
The NPS participates in research activities and special regional air
pollution studies aimed at understanding the formation and long-range transport of ozone and other gaseous
pollutants. Over the past several years, NPS has operated enhanced monitoring sites in three national
parks, Shenandoah, Great Smoky Mountains, and Mammoth Cave, as part of regional ozone studies. Other special
studies have included the use of passive ozone samplers and portable ozone analyzers.
