    The Department of the Army has announced that Brig. Gen. LaWarren V. Patterson, a native of Portsmouth, Va., has been selected for promotion, and a new position as the commanding general, U.S. Army Signal Center of Excellence and Fort Gordon. He will replace Maj. Gen. Alan R. Lynn at a change of command ceremony to be held at Fort Gordon July 25. With assumption of command, Patterson will become the Army's 36th Chief of Signal.

    During 2011, all Army email users will migrate to Enterprise Email service. Instead of accessing email through local email servers at each installation, users will reach through the network to access email services from the DoD cloud. The migration of email services to DISA is part of a larger DoD effort to consolidate IT services, improve capabilities, and reduce overall costs. Migration begins on 15 February 2011 with a initial "fielding" to about 2000 selected email users from CIO/G-6, NETCOM/9th SC(A), U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, and the Information Technology Agency. This first step will allow the Army to refine the migration process and ensure a smooth transition. It will provide a validation of the migration process, email functionality, and system management procedures. Immediately following successful migration of the first wave of users, migration will continue. The goal is to migrate all Army users to Enterprise Email by 31 Dec 2011.
