    LIBERTY CITY ELEMENTARY, Miami, Fla. Aca,!" Members of the U.S. Southern Command Better Opportunities for Single Servicemembers group delivered Christmas cheer Dec. 18, to more than 200 school children in an area of Miami affected by tough economic times. The delivery of gifts, which were donated by US Southern Command and U.S. Army Garrison - Miami employees, brought smiles to the childrenAca,!a,,cs faces. Those smiles and the experience of giving and talking with the kids in turn affected the troops. AF Staff Sgt. Christina Chislom, BOSS Vice President, said the generosity of those in SOUTHCOM who gave gifts made it possible. Working with Sheila Martinez, USAG-Miami Child and Youth Services School Liaison Officer; Chislom and BOSS President, Staff Sgt. Amanda Douglas visited area schools to see if they were interested in the program.

Arroyo, president, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands Federation Chapter 0252 (the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association). Fort Buchanan Commanding Officer Col. Edwin C.   • US military bugle calls sound off for Buchanan

    The bugle was essential to all military communication until its displacement by electronics. The primary bugler was assigned to the headquarters staff and kept close to the commander at the front. Soldiers were quick to learn the calls of the bugle, and on a routine day at least four, and as many as ten calls, were made. The enlisted SoldierAca,!a,,cs life was regulated by bugle calls Aca,!" the daily routine included breakfast, dinner, and supper calls; fatigue call, drill call, stable and water calls, sick call, and taps. The bugle was first used as a signal instrument in the American Army during the Revolutionary War to announce certain scheduled and non-scheduled events for military units.

Despite recent headlines of a slowing economy, which has negatively affected donations to charitable organizations nationwide in 2008, the Arsenal and its union, National Federation of Federal Employees Local 2109, collected nearly 500 toys and a cash donation of $500 this holiday season for The Salvation Army in Troy, N.Y.

    Crane Army Ammunition Activity employee hired in 2008 recently became one of the first Indiana Air National Guard Airmen to receive the Air Force Combat Action Medal for his heroic actions while deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004. Air National Guard Staff Sgt. Tyler Shields, currently an explosive handler for Crane, received the medal for his actions in August 2004. Shields, from the 181st Fighter Wing, had been attached to the Army's 1058th Gun Truck Company in Iraq, where he helped to provide convoy security.

"The purpose of the NAC/SAC is to manufacture strong nitric and sulfuric acid, which is key to the production of Nitrocellulose.
