He's no longer a pilot-in-command, just a citizen who wanted to personally thank Soldiers for serving their country in combat. For his actions on the day of Nov. 14, 1965, Crandall was awarded the Medal of Honor by former President George W. Bush during a ceremony at the White House Feb. 26, 2007.

Capt. Dennis Edwards received the award for his efforts to extract two drivers whose vehicles had caught fire during a traffic accident in Killeen, Texas on the morning of Jan. 27, according to the citation.
