mild Traumatic Brain Injury
AssessmentOne of the most common deployment injuries is a mild Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). A mild TBI is an injury to the head that can affect brain functioning. However, traumatic brain injury involves more than getting hit on the head; it also means that the brain temporarily stops working in its usual way. A service member with a traumatic brain injury might become dazed, or ''see stars,'' or have trouble remembering what happened before or after the injury, or even become unconscious for a few seconds to half an hour.
