MESSAGES FROM THE 375TH AMW COMMANDER

Posted 2/14/2013 Printable Fact Sheet

Jan. 30:  Meeting the challenges ahead
January has been one busy month! From our first Operational Readiness Exercise of the year to reviewing and prioritizing our budget requirements to just meeting all the day-to-day requirements of our missions, we've been hard at work!

Nov. 28: Hail and farewell AMC commanders

Friday marks a historic change in leadership for Air Mobility Command as we bid farewell to Gen. Raymond Johns, Jr., who retires after 35 years of service to this nation--four of those as the AMC commander.

Nov. 20: Tis the season of food, football and family!
The leaves have fallen and the air is cool and crisp, which marks the harvest season and a time that we traditionally take stock of the things we are thankful for in our lives. It's my favorite time of year not only because our families get together to celebrate and eat great food, but we also enjoy watching and playing football, too.

Nov. 7: Servicemembers will still be hard at work this Veterans Day

From delivering blankets to power vehicles to fuel and water, the U.S. military has rallied to support hurricane relief efforts all along the East Coast, and as we head into Veterans Day weekend, my thoughts are focused on all the servicemembers who'll still be hard at work as the nation takes a moment to thank them Nov. 11.

Oct. 7: Never, ever give up!
In an unprecedented turn of events, Cardinals baseball fans watched their team climb back from a 6-0 score to earn a "miracle win" over the Washington Nationals during regular season play to earn back-to-back trips to the National League Championship Series.

Oct. 3: Preparing for the ORI in June 2013
It seems like it was just yesterday when the wing completed its Operational Readiness Inspection with a super result of an "Excellent" rating. That came after 18 months of planning and practicing! So, it's no surprise that we find ourselves back in the game as we launch our efforts for the June 2013 ORI!

Sept. 26: Welcome Lt. Gen. McDew and retirees
It's with great pleasure that we welcome Lt. Gen. Darren McDew to his first official visit to the wing in his role as 18th Air Force commander. Scott is familiar territory for Gen and Mrs. McDew since this is their third tour back at Scott--the first when he was the wing commander for the then-375th Airlift Wing in 2002, and then again in 2006 as the vice commander for 18th Air Force.

Sept. 19: Thanks team for a great air show!
We did it! We had a fantastic air show with 95,000 community members joining us for the two-day extravaganza, and I couldn't be more proud of how everyone came together to execute a flawless event! I've received so much positive feedback from the community and our air show performers about how much they enjoyed Scott AFB's hospitality, and that's all thanks to the thousands of details that you all tackled throughout the last year ... right up until air show weekend.

Sept. 12: Let the good times roll!

What a great week this has been for Scott AFB! From celebrating our heritage with a fantastic Air Force Ball to marching forward in the final execution stage of the air show, our teams have been working hard to bring everyone first class events.

Sept. 6: Honoring Heroes & our past
This is a very special week and one that will be remembered for years to come. First, we will be privileged to take part in a ceremony that honors a fallen hero, and then we'll turn our thoughts to recognizing the achievements of our past as we look forward to a bright future.

Aug. 22: The most important thing we do

There's not a single day that goes by where Command Chief Anderson, Col. [John] Price, and I don't have Airmen on our minds. We think about the ones who have deployed and who are now serving on the frontlines, oftentimes in harsh conditions and in harm's way. We've said goodbye and have wished them well as they left, always having a prayer in our hearts for their safe return.

Aug. 8: Warm welcomes and more Showcase Standouts!
This week we welcomed new 18th Air Force commander, Lt. Gen. Darren McDew and his wife, Evelyn, back for his third time at Scott Air Force Base! We're glad to have his experience--one that includes commanding the 375th "Showcase Wing," a phrase he coined back in 2002. Even though, as he said, things have changed, one thing hasn't--your commitment to success!

July 18: Visit to Capitol Hill

Next week, Chief Master Marty Anderson (375th Air Mobility Wing command chief) and I will be on Capitol Hill visiting with Congressional leaders from Illinois districts as part of the Wing Commander Capitol Hill Visit Program.

July 11: Showcase Standouts: You make us proud!

Today marks the 63-day out point until the air show in September where we will be hosting the world-class USAF Thunderbird aerial demonstration team, and we couldn't be more excited as we keep working the many details associated with opening our doors to the public!

June 20: Summertime leave schedules & Showcase Standouts!

Summer can be a challenging time as we all try to take those well-earned vacations with the family yet keep the mission going each week. It can be tough to look out the window at all the kids swimming in the pool when you're in the office cranking out reports or hosting inspectors ... or holding down the fort while others are gone with their families and enjoying some richly deserved down time.

June 6: It's a privilage to command

As we head full speed ahead into summer, I'd like to take a moment to first, thank you all for ensuring that our Memorial Day weekend was free of incidents and accidents! It takes the entire team to reinforce the idea of "Safety First" and then everyone's cooperation to make the right choices.

May 23: Give thanks for the young men, women who served

It's only been a few days since I took command, and I can already feel the high energy and see the excellence at work! The teams who put together the change of command last Friday did an outstanding job and everyone has made our family feel welcome!
