Installation Information

Naval Support Activity Washington encompasses the Washington Navy Yard which is the oldest military installation in the U.S., Naval Support Facility (NSF)  Naval Research Laboratory,  NSF Suitland, NSF Naval Observatory,  NSF Potomac Annex, NSF Arlington and NSF Carderock.  Located in the Nation's Capital, the seven installations host many Navy headquarters commands including Commander, Navy Installations Command and Naval District Washington headquarters.

Due to budget constraints in fiscal year 2013 (FY 13), certain maintenance services may be reduced or cut at commands throughout Naval District Washington. Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) released a facilities services message Aug. 29 outlining these service level reductions.

In the event of an emergency, readiness can mean the difference between a swift response and a lengthy regret. Ready Navy, the U.S. Navy’s emergency preparedness program, is designed to increase the ability of Navy personnel and their families to better plan for and react to an emergency situation should it occur. According to the official Ready Navy website, emergency planning empowers the individual and their family by saving lives, property and time, ultimately reducing stress on individuals and their families during an already stressful event.

Voter Week

Absentee Voter Week Kicks Off September 27

Naval District Washington // Sept. 27, 2012

According to a report released last year by the Federal Voting Assistance Program, absentee ballot requests from military members were extremely low. As a result, Department of Defense has designated the week of Sept. 27 through Oct. 4 as Absentee Voting Week to encourage higher voter turnout from service members and their spouses.

Naval District Washington's (NDW) Morale Welfare and Recreation program hosted the Defenders of Freedom Appreciation Day for all military and Department of Defense employees at the Six Flags of America theme park, Sept. 22.
