Must Know
All Military Personnel are required to check into the Housing Services Office prior to signing a lease in the area.
The mission of the Housing Services Office is to assist Service Members and their Families with locating adequate and affordable housing for the duration of their stay in the Monterey Bay area.
Services provided by HSO include:
- Rental Agreement Negotiations and Review Service Members can have a lease reviewed and explained prior to signing the lease.
- Lease and Orders Filing Service Service Members can keep an electronic copy of their lease and orders on file for future reference.
- Community and Housing Quality Inspections Service Members can request the assistance of the HSO with walking through a possible rental home.
- Landlord Tenant Disputes Service Members experiencing problems with their current landlord can request the assistance of the HSO to help negotiate problems or file a formal complaint.
- Permissive TDY Certification Service Members on Permissive TDY should check in with the HSO so your leave form can be certified.
- Referral to other Housing Offices Service Members departing the Monterey Bay area should check with the HSO for referral and contact with the gaining installations Housing Office.
- Some guest house facilities are available at the Presidio of Monterey Billeting office. Commercial (831) 242-5091 DSN 768-5091. Reservations can be made 30 - 60 days prior to PCS.
- The Navy Lodge Facility is open at the La Mesa Village. Reservation can be made by calling (800) NAVY-INN.
- The NPS BOQ also has limited space. The telephone number is (831) 656-2069.

Unaccompanied Personnel Housing (UPH) Overview
The Naval Postgraduate School offers newly renovated rooms in the historic Del Monte Hotel, now renamed Herrmann Hall. The CBQ prioritizes reservations for military and DoD civil service on TAD or PCS orders. Space “A” rooms will be offered (when available) at 1500 each day, for the current night only.
