MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (NNS) -- Rear Adm. (Select) John G. King, commander of Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS), served as keynote speaker at the Pennsylvania Survivors of the Pearl Harbor Attack Remembrance Program held in the East Wing Rotunda of the State Capitol Building in Harrisburg, Pa.

Seven Pearl Harbor survivors along with more than 200 family, friends, state and local public officials, active duty military and veterans attended the ceremony which began promptly at 12:55 p.m. - the local time the first bomb attack was launched by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

In his remarks, King commented, "Honored Pearl Harbor survivors, we are in your debt, and in the debt of all World War II American veterans, for the freedoms we still enjoy today. The new generation of Americans serving in our Armed Forces today lives up to your legacy of courage and conviction. The loyalty and perseverance you taught is exemplified through today's Armed Forces."

He also said, "I am deeply humbled to be in the company of our distinguished guests, our Pearl Harbor survivors, who carry with them some of the most valuable histories World War II has known. Thank you for your service and your dedication to our great nation, and for your leadership to those who served with you and after you."

King encouraged all military present to introduce themselves to the survivors, listen to their stories and carry their words forward to share with fellow service members, family and friends.

The poignant ceremony concluded with Taps and a bagpipe rendition of Amazing Grace.
