Now, six hours into a 59-hour event, the Ranger Buddies are Ruck Marching, with all of their combat gear and a 60-pound pack, on their way to Malone 16.

COL Douglas Flohr: "What's significant about it is that you have to engage targets with the M4, the M203 and the 9mm. And what we like about this range is that you get instant feedback. It's steel on steel. So, if there are any engaged targets, the targets go down. With the 203, you see an orange marking round actually hit the door. And there's also some stress because it's spread out across the range, so teams have to run from point to point. And that's where you see the team really, where they're coordinating, where they're talking together, to pick which one is actually going to engage the targets with the M4 and which one is going to engage with the 203. So, by talking to each other as they move across the range, they can figure out which individual needs to engage the targets and which one can kind of lay back as they move through the range."

SFC Blake A. Simms: "Our part of the competition has actually done pretty good. We have a pretty good game plan. In the beginning, everybody took off in a sprint. We just kept the pace. We're going to keep the pace all day, and we're going to do it all the way up to the Road March tonight. So, we're doing pretty good, I feel."

SFC Victor Birdseye III: "Orienteering is moving from one point to another point using terrain features and land-navigation technique. For the unknown distance, it should take them approximately two hours to move from point A to point B."
