- How do I propose a book idea to the Publishing Office?
The Publishing Office publishes books, calendars, and other print products whose topics and contents are based on Library of Congress collections and activities. They draw on visual materials and/or primary source documents ranging from manuscripts to maps to films and photographs in every division of the Library, illuminating and exploring the distinctiveness and importance of the collections. LCPO will consider written proposals for publications that meet these criteria. Proposals should include the subject and scope of the proposed project; the ways it will enhance knowledge of the collections; the proposed audience and market for the publication; and the time, staff, and financial resources necessary to complete the work. Proposals should be submitted to the Director of the Publishing Office for consideration. - How do I get permission to reprint material from your publications?
Contact us by telephone or e-mail for information about a single or multiple images. The Publishing Office does not charge for permission, but will provide the proper credit line for using our work. (There will be a charge if you request a scan or print.) (Please note: For information regarding items from the collections of the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division, see that division’s “Rights and Permissions” Web page). To use posters, calendars, or other items published by the Library of Congress as set dressing for films and plays, contact LCPO for the proper credit line. Permission to reprint text or portions of a book should be directed to our publishing partners. - Do you offer internships?
