"Regulated Navigation Areas; Bars Along the Coasts of Oregon and Washington"

The final rule “Regulated Navigation Areas, Bars Along the Coasts of Oregon and Washington” will become effective on 17DEC09.  This rule affects bar restrictions, closures, and the requirements for lifejacket wear for certain vessels.  The Coast Guard encourages the public to view the final rule published in "Federal Register Vol. 74, No. 220".  To view this rule click here.

The 13th Coast Guard District, Waterways Management Branch is responsible for the following throughout Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington:

A.)  Over 1800 Coast Guard maintained short-range marine Aids to Navigation (ATON).

B.)  Two Long Range Aids to Navigation (LORAN).

C.)  The permitting of over 1000 Private Aids to Navigation (PATON).

D.)  Nine Coast Guard Aids to Navigation (ATON) units (three ships, four ATON units, two LORAN stations).

E.)  The weekly publishing of the Local Notice to Mariners (LNM).

F.)  The permitting of over 1000 Bridges.

G.)  Conducting Waterways Analysis and Management System (WAMS) studies of waterways throughout the district.

H.)  The operation of 25 Lighthouses.
