On 1 January 2006, all government owned NRMW military family housing assets located at Great Lakes, Fort Sheridan, Glenview, and Crane, Indiana, were officially privatized. The Navy privatized partner selected to own, manage, maintain, demolish, and build new housing for military families assigned to and/or transferring to the aforementioned duty locations was Forest City Military Communities, LLC., a subsidiary company of Forest City Enterprise, Inc., headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio.
