In 1980, Master Chief Smith entered in the Coast Guard reserve program while she was a junior in high school and was assigned Station New London, CT as her first duty unit.  After a year and high school graduation, she became an active duty member.  Along with Station New London, her units included CGC Jarvis, CGC Monomoy, Station Cape Canaveral, FL, Station Barnegat Light, NJ, Executive Petty Officer of Station Bayfield, WI and Station Manasquan Inlet, NJ.  She was Officer In Charge of Station New Haven, CT, Station Rio Vista, CA and Station Oak Island, NC.  Before arriving to TRACEN Cape May, her assignment was the Silver Badge Command Master Chief of Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi, TX.

 

Some of Master Chief Smith's awards include three Commendation Medals, Coast Guard Volunteer Medal, four Coast Guard Achievement Medals, nine Good Conduct Medals, and Expert pistol and rifle medals.  She attended the Chief Petty Officers Academy in 1998 and has been an active member in various Chief's Association Chapters, including being a "plank owner" to the South Texas Chapter.
