Francisco J. SÁnchez
Sub Secretario de la Administración de Comercio Internacional
Francisco J. Sánchez ejerce como Subsecretario de Comercio Internacional en el Departamento de Comercio de EE.UU., un cargo para el que fue designado por el Presidente Barack Obama en 2009.
Como Subsecretario, Sánchez dirige la Administración de Comercio Internacional, conocida por sus siglas en inglés ITA, una organización de 2400 empleados y oficinas en los Estados Unidos y en 72 países. Sánchez lidera los esfuerzos para mejorar el entorno empresarial global, ayudando a las organizaciones de Estados Unidos a competir en el extranjero.
Como uno de los arquitectos de la Iniciativa Nacional de Exportación del Presidente Obama, con el ambicioso objetivo de duplicar las exportaciones estadounidenses a finales de 2014, Sánchez dirige los programas y políticas que promueven y protegen la competitividad de las empresas estadounidenses. Bajo su liderazgo, trabajando con socios en el gobierno, la ITA ha ayudado a alcanzar metas significativas de exportación. En el 2011, las exportaciones de Estados Unidos alcanzaron un récord de $ 2100 millones en valor total y apoyaron a casi 10 millones de puestos de trabajo, un aumento de 1,2 millones de empleos desde 2009.
Durante su mandato, Sánchez concentró sus esfuerzos en un enfoque nuevo sobre la promoción de las exportaciones. Desde el 2009, la ITA ha ayudado con éxito a aproximadamente 15000 empresas, con el resultado de cerca de 47000 éxitos de exportación. También tuvo como prioridad asegurar que las empresas estadounidenses puedan competir en igualdad de condiciones a nivel mundial. Sánchez ha revitalizado y reorientado el Centro de Apoyo de la ITA, lo que ha ayudado a las empresas a obtener contratos gubernamentales internacionales por un total de aproximadamente $ 160 mil millones y el apoyo a cientos de miles de puestos de trabajo, desde el inicio de la administración de Obama. También ha fortalecido las relaciones con los mercados prioritarios, jugando un papel de liderazgo en el avance de las siguientes actividades: EE.UU.-Brasil Diálogo Comercial; EE.UU.-Turquía Consejo de Negocios; y EE.UU.-Indonesia Diálogo Comercial.
Sánchez tiene una larga y distinguida carrera tanto en el sector público como en el privado. Durante la Administración Clinton, se desempeñó como Subsecretario de Aviación y Asuntos Internacionales en el Departamento de Transporte de EE.UU. Sánchez había servido previamente en la Casa Blanca como Asistente Especial del Presidente Clinton y como Jefe de Gabinete del Enviado Especial para las Américas.
Además de su función pública, Sánchez estuvo más de 15 años trabajando con varias empresas de consultoría de administración en proyectos relacionados con estrategia de negociación y entrenamiento, y más recientemente como socio en CMPartners. Entre sus logros en el sector privado, Sánchez se desempeñó como consultor del Presidente de Ecuador en las negociaciones que condujeron a la resolución de una disputa fronteriza de larga duración con el Perú.
Sánchez fue nombrado uno de los 100 hispanos más influyentes por la revista Hispanic Business así como uno de los hispanos mas destacados en todo el país por la revista Poder. Sánchez forma parte de la junta directiva de la Corporación de Inversiones Privadas en el Extranjero (OPIC) y es miembro del Consejo de Relaciones Exteriores. Ha sido galardonado con el premio National Point of Light y el premio Governor’s Point of Light Award for Outstanding Community Service. En el 2010, fue nombrado al Salón de la Fama de los Boys and Girls Club of America.
Sánchez, nativo de la Florida, obtuvo su B.A. y J.D. en Florida State University. También recibió una Maestría en Administración Pública de la Kennedy School of Government de la Universidad de Harvard.
