SGM Douglas Richard | Arranger, Group Leader/NCOIC | Sergeant Major Richard grew up in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. He earned a Bachelor of Science in music education from Duquesnse University and an Master of Fine Arts in studio composition from SUNY Purchase. He began his military career as a bugler in the 3rd U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard) Fife and Drum Corps and then served in The United States Army Band Pershing’s Own) as a music copyist. | MSG Susan Davidson | Operations | Master Sergeant Susan Davidson is from Kokomo, Indiana and joined the West Point Band in September of 1997. She previously served as fourth hornist in the Concert Band and performed with the West Point Brass Quintet and the Highlands Brass Quintet. Before coming to West Point, she played with the Frankfurt and Heidelberg Army Bands and with various community orchestras in Germany. Master Sgt. Davidson received Bachelor of Music in performance and education from Ball State University and a Master of Music in performance from Ithaca College.
| SFC Shane Pettit | Instrument Repair | Sergeant First Class Shane Pettit, from Easton, Pennsylvania, joined the West Point Band in September of 2007. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in tuba performance from Temple University. Prior to joining the Army band program, Sgt. 1st Class Pettit was an active freelance tubist as well as a full-time repair technician in the Philadelphia area. He apprenticed under Ed Coles of Regional Music Service in Millville, New Jersey, and was a journeyman repair technician under Bret Gustafson of Gustafson Music in Philadelphia. Prior to joining the West Point Band, Sgt. 1st Class Pettit served with the 2nd Infantry Division Band in Korea, and was also an instrument repair technician at the Armed Forces School of Music, Little Creek, Virginia. He most recently served as tuba instructor at the Armed Forces School of Music. | SFC Jeremy Schlegel | Administration | Sergeant First Class Jeremy Schlegel, from Hanover Township, Pennsylvania, joined the West Point Band in August of 2008. He earned his Bachelor of Music in trumpet performance and music education from Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY. In 2012 he was awarded a Master of Public Administration Degree from John Jay College, New York, NY with a concentration in Human Resources Management. Sgt. 1st Class Schlegel began his enlisted career in August of 2005. Prior to his assignment at West Point, Sgt. 1st Class Schlegel was assigned to the U.S. Army Medical Command Band at Ft. Sam Houston, TX where he served as the Personnel & Administration Branch Chief and performed as principal trumpet player in the Concert Band, Jazz Combo, and Rock Band.
| SSG Chrissy Clark | Publicist/Graphic Designer | Staff Sergeant Chrissy Clark joined the West Point Band in September of 2010. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Prior to joining the West Point Band Staff Sgt. Clark studied with designers such as James Victore, Paul Sahre and Joe Marianek, she also interned at Billboard Magazine and Knopf Publishing. In 2009, she created a stress-relieving event called “Play Day”, which received press from Time Out New York, Gothamist, 101.9 RXP, and various other NYC media outlets. She has freelanced as a designer for local musicians and as a web designer.
| SSG Brandie Lane | Audio | Staff Sergeant Brandie Lane of Columbia, South Carolina, joined the West Point Band in October of 2010. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Engineering Technology from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. Prior to joining the West Point Band, Staff Sgt. Lane served as head audio engineer at GRAMMY nominated Dorian Sono Luminus, a record label in Northern Virginia specializing in classical and jazz music. Her accolades include engineering and mastering credits on Ronn McFarlane's GRAMMY nominated album "Indigo Road", an "Award of Excellence" from the Audio Engineering High Resolution Recording Competition, and a Downbeat Award for "Best Engineering for a Live Recording." Staff Sgt. Lane's professional affiliations include membership with the Audio Engineering Society and The Recording Academy (Producers and Engineers Wing). | SSG Joseph Skinner | Audio | Staff Sergeant Joseph Skinner attended the University of Oklahoma where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in music composition and music technology. While in Oklahoma, Staff Sgt. Skinner built and ran his own audio studio where he recorded well-known regional artists, started work on scoring an eight-part documentary series, and also did recording work for the University of Oklahoma bands. It was in Oklahoma that Joseph met his wife, Mikki, a bugler in Hellcats. In 2007, Staff Sgt. Skinner moved to Cleveland, Ohio and started freelancing at Ante Up Audio as an audio engineer and composer. In 2008, Staff Sgt. Skinner started composing music for American Greetings’ eCards. | SSG Todd Swank | Supply | Staff Sergeant Todd Swank of Glendale, Arizona, joined the West Point Band August of 2010. He earned a Bachelor of Music in horn performance from Northern Arizona University. Staff Sgt. Swank joined the Army in 2001. Prior to his assignment at West Point, Staff Sgt. Swank served at the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Band at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and the Army Materiel Command Band at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. Staff Sgt. Swank deployed twice with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Band in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In the course of his previous assignments, he served as Logistics Senior Non Commissioned Officer and Property Book Officer and performed as principal horn player in Concert Band, Brass Quintet and Woodwind Quintet. |
