  • USS Fort McHenry assists stranded fishermen

    USS FORT MCHENRY, At sea — A Sao Tome and Principe fishing boat was found floating out to sea 26 nautical miles south of Sao Tome and Principe (STP) Jan 30. Lookouts from USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) spotted the distressed fishing vessel and immediately reported the news to the Officer of the Deck. Fort McHenry immediately stopped and rendered aide to the two men.

                • 22nd MEU (SOC) completes final deployment hurdle

                  ROTA, Spain — With the final agricultural inspections of the USS Gunston Hall (LSD-44) and USS Ponce (LPD-15) over and done, the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) Marines and Sailors aboard the USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) completed the final wash down and inspection of the unit's assets here Jan. 18. They filled the wash-racks here to complete the operation and in doing so, the unit marked its final hurdle before beginning the trans-Atlantic voyage home.
