Blinded American Veteran's Foundation Donation
The VIST program looks forward to providing additional outreach and services to our Northern Indiana Blinded American Veterans with the generous donation provided by the BAVF.
VA Northern Indiana Health Care System (VANIHCS) Visual Impairment Service Team (VIST) is proud to announce the acceptance of a donation from the Blinded American Veteran’s Foundation (BAVF). Annually, the BAVF awards grants to organizations for research, rehabilitation and re-employment of sensory impaired American Veterans. This year VANIHCS VIST was fortunate enough to receive $3000 from the BAVF to support program efforts in Fort Wayne, Marion and more rurally located Community Based Outpatient Clinics in South Bend, Goshen, Muncie, and Peru. In 2011 VANIHCS added a VIST program to provide services to Legally Blinded and Low Vision Veterans in the Northern Indiana service area. In one short year the number of Veterans served has doubled. Telehealth appointments have been added to alleviate transportation hardships for rurally located Veterans. A newsletter “VIST Extra” for Blinded Veterans has been added, and a support group will begin in the 2013.
