The Centers for Disease Control and prevention recommend vaccination against influenza as soon as the flu vaccine becomes available for all persons aged> 6 months. U.S. influenza vaccines for 2012–13 will contain A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)-like, A/Victoria/361/2011 (H3N2)-like, and B/Wisconsin/1/2010-like (Yamagata lineage) antigens. It takes approximately two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against the flu. Be proactive and get vaccinated early in the fall, before the flu season really gets going.
