Disenrolling


Enrollment in TRICARE Prime Remote is continuous. You do not have to re-enroll every year to continue coverage, but certain events will cause you to be disenrolled from TRICARE Prime Remote.

1. Sponsor Status Change
Any change in the sponsor's status (e.g., active duty to retired or National Guard or Reserve member deactivation) will cause you to be disenrolled automatically from TRICARE Prime Remote. If you are still eligible for TRICARE Prime Remote after the status change, you must submit a new enrollment application to your regional contractor before the status change occurs to avoid a lapse in coverage.

In some cases, TRICARE Prime Remote may no longer be available to you. For example, when your sponsor retires from active duty. Instead, you can move to an area where TRICARE Prime is offered, or you can use TRICARE Standard and Extra.

2. Voluntary Disenrollment
If the sponsor is an E-5 or above, you can only change your enrollment status (enroll or disenroll) twice in one enrollment year. Any additional disenrollment changes will result in a 12-month enrollment lockout. During the lockout, you will not be permitted to re-enroll. Contact your regional contractor to initiate a voluntary disenrollment.

3. Loss of Eligibility
If you lose eligibility for TRICARE, your TRICARE Prime Remote coverage will automatically end. You will receive a certificate of creditable coverage which serves as proof of insurance so you cannot be excluded from a new health plan for pre-existing conditions.  

Upon loss of eligibility, you may qualify for transitional health care benefits such as the Transitional Assistance Management Program or the Continued Health Care Benefit Program.
