Disenrolling

Enrollment in TRICARE Prime Remote Overseas program is continuous. You do not have to re-enroll every year to continue coverage, but certain events will cause you to be disenrolled from either program.

Sponsor Status Change
Any change in the sponsor's status (e.g., active duty to retired or National Guard or Reserve member deactivation) will cause you to be disenrolled automatically. If you are still eligible to enroll in TRICARE Prime Remote Overseas after the status change, you must submit a new enrollment application to International SOS before the status change occurs to avoid a lapse in coverage.

TRICARE Prime Remote Overseas is not available to retirees and their families. If you retire and remain living overseas, then you are covered by TRICARE Standard Overseas.

Voluntary Disenrollment
You may change your enrollment status twice in an enrollment year (so you can disenroll once without penalty). Any additional disenrollment changes will result in a 12-month enrollment lockout. During the lockout, you will not be permitted to re-enroll. You must contact International SOS and complete a disenrollment form to voluntarily disenroll.

Note: Active duty service members may not voluntarily disenroll from TRICARE Prime Remote Overseas.

Loss of Eligibility
If you lose eligibility for TRICARE, your coverage will end automatically. You will receive a certificate of creditable coverage when TRICARE eligibility is lost. The certificate of creditable coverage serves as proof of insurance so you cannot be excluded from a new health plan for pre-existing conditions.

Upon loss of eligibility, you may qualify for transitional health care benefits such as the Transitional Assistance Management Program or the Continued Health Care Benefit Program.
