GPOI: State-DoD Partnership

GPOI training and equipping activities are implemented through a close partnership between the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Political-Military Affairs manages the Peacekeeping Operations (PKO) Account through which GPOI is funded. Accordingly, the Bureau is responsible for the program oversight and financial management of GPOI-funded activities. DoD organizations implement nearly 50% of all GPOI programs, events, and activities.

The Bureau of Political-Military Affairs works in close coordination with the Department of State regional bureaus, as well as the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff, Regional Combatant Commands, and other DoD organizations to develop regional program plans and execute training and equipping activities.

For more information on GPOI-funded activities implemented by DoD, reference the websites of DoD partner organizations highlighted on the GPOI Helpful Links page.
