COL Perry L. Hagaman

Chief of Staff – Army

Colonel Perry L. Hagaman assumed duties as the Chief of Staff on December 2010. He previously served as the State Army Aviation Officer, and the Commander, 83d Troop Command. In these positions, Colonel Hagaman’s responsibilities were to lead, train, maintain, and care for eight diverse subordinate battalions and two Civil Support Teams (CSTs). His span of control covered 1,825 Soldiers from various units which included Special Forces, Aviation, Engineer and Public Affairs type units. Colonel Hagaman’s responsibilities included the mobilization and deployment of capable units to conduct full spectrum combat operations, as well as meeting the needs of the State while executing Defense Support to Civil Authorities (DSCA) Missions. As Chief of Staff of the Florida Army National Guard, he is responsible for Joint Force Headquarters staff actions, coordination of operations, plans, policies, and directives for more than 12,000 members. He is also responsible for coordination and oversight of the Florida National Guard’s $165M budget.

Colonel Hagaman entered military service in 1979 as a Military Policeman with the 320th Military Police Company, US Army Reserve, St. Petersburg, Florida. In 1981, he transferred to the Florida Army National Guard as an Aero Scout Observer with Company D, 26th Aviation Battalion. Colonel Hagaman received a commission as a Second Lieutenant from Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning, Georgia, in 1984. In 1986, he completed Initial Entry Rotary Wing training at Fort Rucker, Alabama, as the Honor Graduate.

Colonel Hagaman has served in a variety of key command and staff positions including Intelligence Officer, 1-111th Aviation Regiment; Commander, Army Aviation Support Facilities #1 and #2, Chief of Aviation Training, State Aviation Safety Officer and the State Army Aviation Officer. As a Master Army Aviator with more than 4,000 flight hours in the UH-1H, OH-58A, UH-60L and AH-64A Helicopters. Colonel Hagaman has served as a Maintenance Officer, Test Pilot Examiner, Safety Officer and Instructor Pilot for a wide range of military and civilian aircraft.

Colonel Hagaman is a graduate of Embry Riddle University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Professional Aeronautics. He is also a graduate of the Army War College with a Master’s of Science Degree in Strategic Studies. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), the National Defense Service Medal (with Bronze Star), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, the Florida Distinguished Service Medal, the Florida Commendation Medal (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), the Florida Active State Duty Ribbon (with 1 Silver and 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), the Florida Governor Meritorious Unit Citation (with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (with 1 Silver and 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with Gold Hourglass).
