COMMUNITY + SECURITY

Melissa Glasspoole talks about the sense of community she and her husband share with other families on Post.

Melissa: Hi, I'm Melissa Glasspoole and my husband is Sergeant First Class Brian Glasspoole, and we live here on Post.
I like the sense of community and the sense of security. Everyone watches all the kids. You know, if I turn my back for a second and Tommy starts to walk down towards the road, I know that Becky's right there, and she's going to grab him.
Brian: I mean, it's the "friendly neighborhood" aspect that you don't see a lot - off of an Army Post.
Melissa: Our last duty station, we did live in the community - off Post - and we didn't know our neighbors. I would have to go to people on Post to get that sense of home.
Brian: Whether you've been here for two weeks or for two years, they would do anything for you.
Melissa: When my husband's deployed, being on Post, I think, is the best situation 'cause you have people going through the same situations you're in and I think that that helps a lot.
Some of my best friends are my neighbors. I believe that my kids are safe when we go to bed at night.
I can sleep - we all kind of watch out for each other.
