Public Community Suicide Prevention Briefings

The purpose of the Leader's Guide is to help unit leaders (commanders, first sergeants, and supervisors) recognize distress related behaviors, provide support to individuals within the unit, and collaborate with helping agencies to meet the needs of individuals in distress. The guide aims to assist leaders in the decision-making process by describing a broad range of supportive interventions, resources, and strategies for supporting individuals in distress. It also provides guidance on effective communications with members of the Air Force helping agencies.

The organization was founded in 1996 by Gerald and Elsie Weyrauch of Marietta, Georgia, survivors of the suicide of their 34-year-old physician daughter, Terri. Their goal was to create a way for survivors of suicide - those who have lost someone to suicide - to transform their grief into positive action to prevent future tragedies
