Ten States to Receive Funds to Support Education Jobs

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that ten states will receive millions of dollars to support education jobs.

"There is a huge sense of urgency to get these funds out the door," said Duncan. "These education dollars will help these states keep thousands of teachers in the classroom working with our students this school year."

U.S. Department of Education Awards $50,000 to Help Poplar Elementary School District Recover from Multiple Student Suicides

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools has awarded Poplar Elementary School District #9 in rural Poplar, Montana, a $50,000 Project School Emergency Response to Violence (SERV) grant to assist with ongoing recovery efforts following the suicide death of five students at Poplar Middle School last school year.

Montana to Receive $11.5 Million to Turn Around Its Persistently Lowest Achieving Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Montana will receive $11.5 million to turn around its persistently lowest achieving schools through the School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. These funds are part of the $3.5 billion that will be made available to states this spring from money set aside in the 2009 budget and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Montana to Receive More Than $40 Million in Additional Recovery Funds

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that an additional $40,137,322 is now available for Montana under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. To date, Montana has received $253,765,375 through the Recovery Act. The state recently reported that recovery dollars have been used to provide funding for more than 1,500 education jobs from Oct. 1 to Dec.
