Special Operations Department

Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story Special Operations Department is responsible for disaster preparation and recovery and base wide beautification. We operate ten crews, which constantly monitor the base for gear adrift and missile hazards. These crews are also responsible for ground maintenance actions and removing uncontained trash and garbage. Special Operations removes downed trees and continually searches for dead trees to cut down and prevent possible damage during times of high winds and destructive weather. We also do special projects to include replacing worn signs, repairing small pot holes, and some exterior building preservation. Combined, these efforts saved the U.S. Navy Hundreds of Thousands of dollars in contract labor costs for FY07. Finally, Special Operations integrates with the Self Help and NAVFAC preparing the base for destructive weather and coordinating associated recovery operations. Some of these functions include providing sand and salt to resident commands in the winter, and distributing sandbags for tropical storm preparations.

Special Operations also provides Color Guard services by request for Retirement Ceremonies, Change of Command and any other ceremonies requiring a color guard.

We are located in building 3532 near Rockwell Hall Gym. Our working hours are M-F, 0700-1500. Special Operations Department can be reached at (757) 462-7273.
