Perkins Named Faith

PEACHTREE CITY, GA — June 5, 2012 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Acting Director and Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today today that Mr. Daniel Perkins has been named principal of Faith Middle School, at Fort Benning, GA., in the Georgia/Alabama District. Current Principal Angie Cotton has accepted a position with DoDDS-Europe.

Mr. Perkins joined DoDEA last year when he took an assistant principal position at Faith MS. He was principal of Summit Alternative High School in Breckenridge, Colo., and prior to that taught regular and special education classes for more than 16 years. Originally from Washington State, Mr. Perkins is a retired U.S. Navy veteran and has served on ships, in hospitals, in a deep sea diving unit and as a builder. He is a former member of the U.S. Adaptive Cross Country Ski Team and has ski raced all over the United States and Europe, where he won a U.S. National title and raced in the 2006 Paralympic Games in Torino, Italy.

“As a current assistant principal at Faith Middle School, Mr. Perkins is ready to accept the challenges of the principalship,” said Mrs. Lois Rapp, Georgia/Alabama District Superintendent. “We are glad to have Dan as a part of our administrative team.”

Mr. Perkins earned his Master’s of Arts Degree in Special Education from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, N.Y., and his Master’s of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership from Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colo.

His son, Matt, is a student at the State University New York at Buffalo pursuing a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy and Sports Nutrition and plans to go to medical school.
