PEACHTREE CITY, GA — July 28, 2008 — Dr. Elaine Beraza, Director, Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today that Dr. Carolyn D. Carr has been named principal of McNair Elementary School, at Fort Bragg, in the North Carolina District.

“As a former Fort Bragg Schools’ student, teaching assistant, teacher, and assistant principal, Dr. Carr brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her new role as McNair ES principal,” said Dr. Emily Marsh, Fort Bragg Community Superintendent. “Working with Dr. Carr, I have been impressed with her commitment to improving student achievement and her support of military families. Dr. Carr’s collaborative leadership style, curriculum knowledge, and strong work ethic will all benefit the McNair community and Fort Bragg Schools.”

Carr was educated in the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Winston-Salem State University, and has spent all of her DoDEA career at Fort Bragg. She began as a substitute teacher in 1981 and began full-time teaching in 1985 at Murray Elementary School where she taught kindergarten, K-1 multi-age and third grade. In 2004 she was named assistant principal at Murray and then assistant principal at Irwin Intermediate School, the position she currently holds.
