PEACHTREE CITY, GA — July 10, 2009 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDSCuba) announced today that Mr. Charles (Chuck) Yahres has
been named principal of Bolden Elementary/Middle School, at Beaufort, in the South Carolina/Fort Stewart/DoDDSCuba District.

Yahres, a native of Pennsylvania, has been with DoDEA for 29 years and most recently served his seventh year as principal of the Lakenheath Elementary School on RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom. He began his teaching career in 1977 as a fifth grade teacher for the Methodist Church at the George O. Robinson School in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He joined DoDEA in 1980 when he taught in Hahn, Germany. His administrative
experience began in 1987, when he was selected as the deputy assistant principal of the
Heidelberg Middle School.

“Mr. Yahres has vast experience with elementary and middle school students,” Curtis said. “He is an excellent listener and has worked hard with his previous staff to improve student achievement. His communication skills and educational knowledge will be an asset to the Bolden ES/MS and the community.”

Yahres earned his Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Duquesne University in Pittsburg, PA, and his Master’s of Arts in Elementary Education in 1980 from Union College in Barbourville, KY. He has completed extensive postgraduate work in curriculum and instruction, and school administration and supervision. He and his wife, Carmella, have two sons – Matthew, 25, and Conner, 12.
