PEACHTREE CITY, GA — July 7, 2009 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDSCuba) announced today that Ms. Andrea McClain has been
named principal of Kingsolver Elementary School, at Fort Knox, in the Kentucky District.

McClain has taught first, second and third grade, as well as high school German and middle school English and Social Studies. She has been an adjunct faculty member with National University’s teacher credentialing program since 1997. She served as an elementary school assistant principal in Riverside, Calif., and as an elementary school principal in San Diego.

“Ms. Andrea McClain understands the unique challenges of military dependents, as a former DoDEA student,” said Mr. Todd Curkendall, Kentucky District’s Fort Knox Community Superintendent. “Her diverse background in many different cultures and fluency in four languages will be a tremendous asset to our organization and to the military families we serve.”

McClain earned her bachelor’s degree in Russian Literature from the University of California, at San Diego, and her master’s degree with honors from Chapman University. As the daughter of a career Marine, she said she is looking forward to serving the same DoDEA system which provided much of her own education.
