Flying Trucks

Two utility trucks are chained down to the cargo bay of a C-17 Globemaster III at Sky Harbor Air National Guard Base in Phoenix, Ariz., Nov. 3. C-118

The mirror-like finish of a C-118 Liftmaster reflects the sky on the flightline here. The plane, notable as the aircraft in which Elvis Presley returned after serving in the Army in Europe, is scheduled to return to its place as a static display at the traffic circle near the passenger terminal here later this year. Refuel

The refueling boom of a KC-10 Extender meets an F-15E Strike Eagle mid-air above North Carolina's Outer Banks region Jan. 10. The boom was operated by Tech. Sgt. Matthew Yockey, a reservist with the 78th Aerial Refueling Squadron. The KC-10 and its aircrew proved their versatility during the three-day mission that saw them transport passengers and humanitarian cargo in addition to providing the Strike Eagles' fuel. Denton

Tech. Sgt. Angel Gomez, a Reserve boom operator with the 78th Aerial Refueling Squadron, makes preparations to a KC-10 Extender to unload humanitarian cargo at the aerial port on Joint Base Charleston, S.C., Jan. 9. Gomez and fellow reservists from the 78th ARS picked-up the cargo from Minneapolis-St. Paul Air Reserve Station, Minn., and delivered it to Charleston as part of a Denton Program mission. The Denton Program allows humanitarian cargo to be shipped for free onboard military aircraft on a space-available basis. In this case, the cargo consisted of approximately 40,000 pounds of fortified, rice-based meals intended for impoverished people living in Afghanistan, several hours west of Bagram Air Base.
