Wanted: More Las Vegas doctors

In a report from American Association of Medical Colleges looking at Nevada physician numbers from 2010, Nevada had 178 per 100,000, one of the lowest rates in the country. The more doctors a state has, the healthier it tends to be and life expectancies are higher.

Golden Age of Vegas hockey could be over already

What’s in a name? When it comes to professional sports franchises, the answer is a considerable amount of revenue. North American sports teams generated 67.2 billion dollars in 2015, according to internet-based statistics company, Statista. The city’s first professional major sports franchise — the National Hockey League’s Vegas Golden Knights — plans to garner their share beginning in 2017. But things have already gone awry.

As we all know in Nevada, our Legislature meets for 120 days every other year. The 2017 Legislative session will see the Democratic party in control of the Senate and the Assembly. Gov. Brian Sandoval, a Republican, is the head of the executive branch, which means that bills that are passed that do not have bipartisan support may very well face a veto challenge by the governor. With the country so divided politically, the 2017 legislative session will be a wild ride, to say the least.

Medical research increases in Las Vegas
