The Salt Lake City VA Regional Office is located on the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System campus, approximately four miles East of downtown Salt Lake City.  The total Regional Office employment level is 540 actual full time equivalent employees.  The Regional Office also manages the Anchorage VA Regional Office (43 actual FTE) and Fort Harrison Regional Office (58 actual FTE).  The Regional Office is responsible for the administration of Veterans' benefits for the entire state of Utah, as well as Montana and Alaska through remote management of the Anchorage and Fort Harrison Offices, to include compensation and vocational rehabilitation and employment.  The Regional Office serves approximately 161,350 veterans in Utah out of a total state population of 2.8 million residents, 71,552 veterans in Alaska, and 106,080 veterans in Montana.  Additionally the Regional Office performs remote management of the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment program for the state of Idaho.  Itinerant service to remote areas of the state is provided by veterans' service organizations; and housebound service by a veterans contact representative is available locally.

Compensation and pension payments amount to approximately $262 million annually for Utah, $167 million in Alaska, and $255 million in Montana.  The combined offices of Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment in Salt Lake City and Boise have approximately 1,800 veterans participating in the VR&E Program, with the two offices rehabilitating an average of over 200 veterans annually.

Salt Lake City was selected, along with Winston-Salem, to be one of two Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) Sites.  The Regional Office is responsible for claims submitted from the Central and Western Area, to include receiving claims from a total of 24 In-Take Sites.  The Western Area Fiduciary Hub is located at the Salt Lake City Regional Office and manages all fiduciary matters for the Western Area (14 Regional Offices).  The Fiduciary Hub was initially a pilot program in 2008 and is now a model program for all other proposed Fiduciary Hubs in the nation.  In addition, a National Call Center (NCC) is located at the Regional Office (one of two NCCs in the West), as well as the only IRIS Response Center in the nation.
