Captain John Arata
Captain John Arata, Commander/Conductor, entered military service in 1999
and the Air Force in 2002. He is a distinguished graduate of the Academy of
Military Science, McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Tennessee and the
United States Army Training Center, Fort Jackson, South Carolina. His
decorations include the Air Force Achievement Medal, the National Defense
Ribbon, the Global War on Terrorism Ribbon, the Air Force Training Ribbon
with one oak leaf cluster, the Missouri Military Funeral Honors Ribbon, the
Army Service Ribbon and the Army Sharpshooter Badge.

The commander holds the Bachelor of Science in Education magna cum laude
from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. He is pursuing the
Master of Music in wind conducting from Southern Illinois University -
Edwardsville. His conducting studies include master classes or courses with
John R. Bell, Colonel Arnold Gabriel, Colonel Patrick Jones, Lieutenant
Colonel Steven Grimo, Anthony Maiello, Frederick Fennell, Allan McMurray,
Michael Casey and Robert Quebbemann.

In his civilian career, Captain Arata is the director of bands at Eureka
(Missouri) High School where he leads the Concert and Symphonic Bands, the
Jazz Band and the Wildcat Pride Marching Band. Bands under his direction
regularly earn superior ratings at state and national festivals and his jazz
and marching bands have placed at regional festivals in Missouri. His
programs routinely boast high ratings and levels of participation in solo
and ensemble performance as well. Captain Arata has three children and
resides in Eureka, Missouri.
